Mail and Package Delivery! US Postal Service!

USPS Shipping Scam

Beware of thieves trying to steal your mail.

The day before, I had printed a label on www.USPS.com and then shipped a package at the local Post Office.

Coincidentally, I received the following email the very next day.

The sender’s name in my inbox displayed as “USPS Informed Delivery.”

The subject line displayed, “Your package may be returned to sender if no action is taken.”

It sounded urgent and it looked official, but it didn’t feel right.

When I moved my mouse over the “Review your package” button, the URL for the button displayed as https://natt.theislaam.org/engam.  Clicking the “Review your package” button took me to a mail redirect form.

This form had fields to enter all relevant details about my shipment.

I was sure I had the recipient’s name correct.  I had it saved in my address list.  In addition, the email never gave any shipment details to help the message recipient, me, identify the correct shipment.  This is where I stopped.

This is a phishing scam.  Had I entered my package tracking number and the address information, the scammer would have been able to capture all the shipment information and redirect my package.

Note, there is also a similar version of this going around via text from usps-track-package-delivery-information.  Do not click the link in the text.

Beware of thieves trying to steal your mail.
